In his book "A Guide to Cornish Place-Names" Morton Nance one of the founders of Old Cornwall wrote the following: "A book to contain every recorded place-name of Cornwall, with all the changes, some quite beyond imagination, that they have undergone, and especially with a meaning past dispute given to each one, is a work this world will never see. Who is, or ever will be, capable of interpreting more than a very modest portion of our names with certainty, and if such a wizard were found, who would print a book so expensive that no one in Cornwall could afford its price?" Chris Bond is a member of Camborne Old Cornwall Society and has taken on the task referred to by Morton Nance and publishing it on a web site and also in book form. There is a link from this site to his from the main page and I know that you will find his site of value in understanding the place names of Cornwall. My thanks to Chris for agreeing to the link being placed on the site. I hope to have a report from Mac shortly to tell us what if any news he has. George Pritchard (web master)
